About SemesterMath
SemesterMath is a set of free calculators for the arithmetic of a school term: your GPA (weighted, unweighted and cumulative), the score you need on a final exam, your class grade from weighted categories, and what it takes to raise your GPA to a target.
Why it exists
Most grade calculators use one generic table and don’t say where it came from. Schools don’t all grade the same way: a 65% is a D on one common chart and an F on another, and honors and AP weights vary from school to school. SemesterMath shows which rule it is using, links to the source, and lets you switch to your school’s rule where they differ.
How we work
- Every grading scale is sourced. Letter grades, grade points and percentage cut-offs are copied from a published document, such as a university catalog, the College Board or a state education department, and each calculator page links to it with the date we last checked it. See the methodology.
- Every formula is tested. Each calculator is checked against hand-worked examples before it goes live. The worked example on each page is printed from those tested results, never typed in by hand.
- Your grades stay with you. The calculations run in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to our server. See the privacy policy.
Who runs it
SemesterMath is built and maintained by Shahzaib, a web developer who builds calculator sites and WordPress plugins. He writes and tests each calculator and checks every source. SemesterMath is independent: it is not affiliated with the College Board, any school district or any university.
Found a mistake?
If a result looks wrong, or your school uses a scale we don’t have yet, please tell us. Corrections are checked against the source and fixed, and the page’s “last checked” date is updated.
