How do you calculate a test grade?
Subtract the number missed from the number of questions (or points), divide by the number of questions, and multiply by 100. A 25-question test with 3 missed scores 88%, a B.
Test grade = (questions − missed) ÷ questions × 100
Worked example: 25 questions, 3 missed
- Right: 25 − 3 = 22.
- Share right: 22 ÷ 25, times 100 = 88%.
- Letter: 88% is a B on the College Board chart.
The grading chart under the calculator lists the score for every possible number missed, so you can grade a whole stack of tests without working each one out.
Tests graded in points
Enter the total points instead of questions, and the points lost instead of questions missed. Half points work too: type 2.5. If questions are worth different amounts, total the points lost first.
Curving the results
If a test came out harder than intended, the grade curve calculator shows what each common curve does to the whole class's scores. For a student's overall grade, combine test scores with homework and other work in the grade calculator.
